The Fund Forum and the British Council signed a Memorandum of understanding on cooperation in education, culture and art on October 2008. Parties: Mrs. Gulnara Karimova, Mr. Martin Davidson, Chairperson and Executive director of British Council. «Memorandum of Understanding» between the two organizations is aimed at further deepening of bilateral cooperation in education, culture and art during 2008-2011.
The Fund Forum and the British Council have been fruitfully cooperating for several years. The British Council supports Youth initiatives center (YIC) «Kelajak ovozi» (Voice of the Future) under the Fund Forum, by inviting experts to master classes and workshops for youth, providing books for the YIC Resource сenter, rendering assistance in the YIC language center Lingvo.Master.
Scaled joint projects
In 2007, the British Council initiated an international partnership project «New Silk Road and Fashion Fringe», aimed to promote an international cooperation among young designers and the cultural links between Silk Road and Great Britain. From the Uzbek part the project was supported by the Fund Forum. The first phase of the project «Fashion Fringe» ended with the show of collections at the London Fashion Week.
On June 20, 2008 the opening ceremony of the exhibition «Colors of the Silk Road: Suzani embroideries from Uzbekistan» was held in Glasgow by the Fund Forum and «Burrell Collection» museum. As a part of this exhibition, master classes were held by suzanne masters - laureates of the Festival of Traditional Culture «Asrlar sadosi».
20-22 June 2008 instrumental ensemble under direction of Abduhoshim Ismailov participated in the Festival of Asian culture Mela, and the ensemble also carried out a show master class in Glasgow schools.
3-7 October 2008 a photo exhibition «Uzbekistan - through the eyes of children» was held at the Royal College of Art in London. 30 children inmates of houses of mercy and boarding schools, and students of Childrens Creativity Centers «Yangi аvlod forumi» (Forum of Young Generation) were selected to participate in the project.
Show-exhibition «Masterpieces of National Art: Past and Present» has been held from April 20th till May 10th , 2009 by the Fund Forum in association with UNESCO and British Council at the Youth Creativity Palace in Tashkent. Every day from 100 till 500 connoisseurs of national art visit the exhibition, among them schoolchildren, students, cultural workers, guests of the capital and all those who are interested in rare exhibits and contemporary works from private collections and museums.
From July 7 to July 20, 2009, Kashkadarya region hosted a summer educational camp organized by the Fund Forum with the assistance of the British Council, UNFPA, and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The camp was in the format of “Corporation” role game and was attended by 250 active members of “Kelajak ovozi” Youth Initiatives Centre and winners of the Fund Forum's youth projects.
October 12-17, 2009. Tashkent. Among those attending Style.uz Art Week were Carmel Kelly and Sarah Atkinson, specialists of the Art and Design Fund at London College of Fashion and a popular designer duet Basso & Brooke.
On March 10, 2010, Cambridge University (Great Britain) hosted a presentation of Uzbek culture and arts, which included a photo exhibition “Tashkent – the History of One City”, dedicated to the 2200th anniversary of the capital of Uzbekistan. The presentation was held as part of Cambridge Navruz Celebration Festival attended by professors and students of Cambridge University as well as representatives of universities in London, Oxford, Manchester, Nottingham, Royal Asian Society, the British Museum, business circles, members of parliament and diplomatic corps.
January-February 2011, “Save the Planet with Us!” contest, whose participants include young people who share the goal of saving the planet. Students, activists of NGOs and youth organizations as well as journalists – all those who have worked to attract public attention to climate change through their creative endeavors. The contest participants presented works delivered in various media formats – video and radio clips, posters and slide shows.
On July 7-21, 2011, Shakhrisabz (Kashkadarya region) hosted the fifth “Kelajak ovozi” (Voice of the future) Summer Training Camp, which brought together 500 people from all over the republic. Representatives of the British Council in Uzbekistan were involved as trainers for the training camp.
