The Women`s Council and the Social Initiative Support Fund (SISF), patronized by Gulnara Karimova, cooperate closely with US institutions and experts on culture, art, medicine, and social and charitable activity.
Since 2007, the SISF, in collaboration with the USAID and its divisions (AgLinks Project, NDI, Project HOPE), has been running several projects in healthcare, advocacy of a healthy lifestyle, etc. Also, the SISF cooperates with Johns Hopkins University and Population Services International, a leading US health organization.
Since 2009, at the initiative of Gulnara the Fund Forum has been an official donor for amfAR`s annual Cinema against Aids gala, which is held as part of Cannes Film Festival in France.
In 2010, the Fund Forum`s New York City representative office was opened.
Major events
June 26 – July 1, 2006. Tashkent. Professor Pamela Vandiver, a leading expert on the history of world ceramics, of the University of Arizona (USA) attended the first seminar of Uzbekistan ceramists on traditional technologies and materials which was held at Usto-Shogird Ceramics School of a famous master Akbar Rakhimov. The seminar was organized with support from the Fund Forum and the UNESCO.
April 21-25, 2009. Tashkent. A group of American specialists on family medicine, lab and functional diagnostics (a radiologist, a mammography specialist, a lab technician and MRT technologists, and an ultrasound technologist from leading clinics in New York and Los Angeles) gave fee consultations for patients at Salus Vita Medical Center as part of the Family Health charitable campaign, organized by the Women`s Council, as well as master classes for Uzbek physicians. Also, specialists from the International Association of Family Doctors (Tulsa, Oklahoma) gave a series of lectures on family medicine for students of Tashkent Medical Academy.
May 1-2, 2009. Tashkent region. Executive Chairman of FBC Media and representative of Wall Street Journal Alan Friedman (USA) was among the guests attending Asrlar Sadosi Festival of Traditional Culture, an event organized annually by the Fund Forum and the UNESCO.
June 30, 2009. Tashkent. Elliot Belenkov, a professor at Mount Sinai Medical Center, a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (USA) and a member of the European Society for Medical Oncology, was among those attending the international forum titled “Medical Aspects and the Role of Public Organizations in the Solution of Breast Cancer Problems”, organized by the Women`s Council, the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan, the Social Initiative Support Fund (SISF), ‘In the Name of Life` Association of Women and the Republican Cancer Research Centre.
October 12-17, 2009. Tashkent. Style.uz Art Week included a fashion show by Oscar de la Renta. A prominent fashion journalist Godfrey Deeny was among those attending the event.
October 15-22, 2009. Tashkent. Twenty-five American artists were among those attending the fifth International Biennale of Contemporary Art.
May 8-9, 2010. Khiva. Founder and editor-in-chief of the Bukharian Times newspaper Rafael Nektalov attended Asrlar Sadosi Festival of Traditional Culture, an event organized annually by the Fund Forum and the UNESCO.
May 14, 2010. Tashkent. The International Breast Cancer Forum organized by the Women`s Council, the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan, ‘In the Name of Life` Breast Cancer Association, the Fund Forum, ‘In the Name of Life` Association of Women and EUROPA DONNA-Uzbekistan, featured eminent scientists and professionals among whom were Dr. Jo Anne Zujewski (Head of Breast Cancer Therapeutics, Clinical Investigations Branch, Cancer Therapy, Evaluation Program, Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis, National Cancer Institute USA), Mollie Williams (Director, Community Health Programs, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, USA), Matthew Krzyston (CEO of the Research and Policy Exchange, USA). A day earlier, on May 13, they had joined a charitable marathon ‘In the Name of Life`, which raised funds to support women diagnosed with cancerous diseases.
June 10, 2010. New York City. The Ana Tzarev Gallery in New York City hosted “Discover Uzbekistan”, a reception in honor of Uzbek culture. This was the first time the prestigious American gallery hosted an event dedicated to Uzbekistan`s cultural legacy and tourism potential. The event drew plaudits from art professionals and general public in the US.
June 9-11, 2010. Chicago. ‘In the Name of Life` National Breast Cancer Association participated in the Global Summit on International Breast Health in Chicago. The summit brought together organizations addressing breast cancer in Latin America, Asia and Europe.
On February 25-27, 2011, the Fund Forum participated in Travel Show 2011 tourism fair held at Jacob K. Lavits Convention Center in New York City. The event invited everyone to explore over 500 destinations across the globe.
On March 25, 2011, “Discovering Ancient Treasures of the Great Silk Road: Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva” presentation held at UN Plaza in New York City. The presentation, which was attended by over 100 officials of missions at UN along with experts from the US, Russia and China, included a celebration of Navruz as an international UN holiday.
On April 5, 2011, New York City’s Nailya Alexander Gallery opened its doors to welcome the public to the vernissage for the exhibition of a renowned photo artist, Max Penson, one of the most prominent representatives of Uzbek photography. The art show features around 50 vintage gelatin silver prints from the artist’s family estate and several private collections.
On June 15, 2011, the Fund Forum participated in the 26th annual World Trade Day, a major international trade conference held at Bryant University in Rhode Island, USA. The event was attended by around 500 executives, managers, top policy experts, academicians, business leaders, and government officials. Presented by the Chafee Center for International Business at Bryant University, World Trade Day has as its goal to help businesses to reach beyond geographical and intellectual boundaries, develop new strategies and build alliances with overseas partners.
On July 25 and 26, 2011, the Fund Forum, which in 2010 was granted Special Consultative Status with the UN Economic and Social Council, participated in a high-level meeting on youth convened by the General Assembly to discuss a wide range of issues of concern to the younger generation.
Cooperation with USA public organizations
